Here is something that I have learned over the years:
UTIs suck.
To avoid: Keep your fluid intake up and your personal hygiene meticulous. Pee frequently, and definitely do so after intimate activities. Avoid "holding it." Drink lots of water.
As soon as you feel any symptoms, immediately start drinking as much water as you can manage. Then drink a little more. And when you are tired of the water, drink more. Or consider some juices. Cranberry juice is rumored to be helpful, but it needs to be the straight juice... not the diluted stuff you get from OceanSpray in the store. Admittedly, the OceanSpray stuff is more pleasant, but it's diluted. No matter what, drink fluids.
Oh, and if the doctor prescribes pyridium, don't wear white. For that matter, don't wear anything you care about. The fluorescent orange color will never come out.

robb, I like this thread although I'm not sure if I have anything to add. Things that I know to be useful I think everyone knows or doesn't need/care to know. Here's an example: Make an outdoor campfire like a teepee. I love a campfire and had one last night in the pit I initially dug in 1992. A round bowl in the dirt is the starting point. I like one about 4 feet in diameter and a foot deep. Start with easy to burn sticks and dry wood leaning against each other like a teepee, down in the bowl. Inside the teepee place some fast lighting material, like newspaper and dry weeds or twigs. Light it up and once it gets going lean some some larger wood to the outside, like small split logs. If it starts to peter out add more dry kindling of your choice in the guts, or the teepee center. Once it's really going strong you can add a hefty log on the pile if you want to keep it going for hours. I always have two big buckets of water set up to pour on my fire when I want to go to bed. Photos, of course, paint the picture.
^9-24-2012. My Crosstour with some fast lighting material I gathered from the local ground and some other dry found wood for the second layer of the teepee.
^3-13-2015. My fire last night, at my place in Kennedy Meadows, CA.
^3-14-2014. My pit in the day time.
^10-17-2009. Another fire.

Yep, I agree…UTIs suck and they're painful. I had an UTI when I was a teenager and was prescribed a medicine that made me pee orange. When at a drive-in theater I needed to use the men’s bathroom that had a long trough used by several people. You should have seen their reactions – for me it’s still funny to this day.

But yeah, that is what pyridium does. Bright fluorescent orange. Would scare the bejeezus out of you if you weren't warned ahead of time.
Vintage savings:
If you take any maintenance medications, mailing away for the script can often save you money. Three months supply for the price of two. Not all meds will qualify.
Some insurance companies do require this already.
Also pharmacy programs at Rite Aid and other stores often offer 90 day generics (not all generics) for $15.99. In a couple of instances filling our scripts through them vs the insurance company was cheaper.
I'm also CVS shopper, using their store card and watching for sales can save you money. Yesterday I bought about $74.00 worth of stuff and out of pocket was only around $34.00. They had buy one get one offers on some vitamins, supplements, I had extra bucks from a previous purchase and some % savings off of non sale items sent to my card. They will combine the % offers, not limit you to one.
And don't forget your senior value drink (coffee of soda) available when buying food at Wendy's. For those over 55, and you have to ask for it when you order, they don't offer it automatically.

OK, at the risk of seeming like a wacko has anyone else run across this video? BTW, this video infomercial takes about thirty minutes to watch.

If so, has anyone tried this? Or at least what do you think about the possibility that this may really work? FWIIW, it does seem like something big business would squash from getting into the mail stream media.
We have some smart people here. Is it possible that magnetizing water could cause the water to flow through the fabric and clean them? Or do you think that this is a hoax?
