Default Moving the office to home...

...at the end of the month. Our dining room will be my office and our home office will be Anne Marie's office. We're finishing digitizing 26 years of reports (about 7,000 so far), which were in bookshelves all the way around my office. It's kind of ironic that we do environmental services and produce forest-devouring reports. We need to get rid of some furniture. We're slowly sneaking up on retirement. We don't do much entertaining. Now it will be mostly BBQs, etc. in our back yard.

Our office is only 2.5 miles from our house, Dave.

But that means the Vette isn't getting 5miles per day on her.

You're going to like that. It's absolutely fun doing business on the deck, at the kitchen table, anywhere you want. I love not having an office. I can get up early, watch the sunrise and do what I need to do remotely before they get there. Then it's my time.

Make sure that you document everything, every expense. The home office has been a red flag for the IRS over the last few years.

Working from home is a blessing and a curse.
+ Can't beat the commute.
+ you have more me time. for me it took an hour a day from my commute.
- Work hours easily blend into home hours.
- there are a lot of distractions at home. .. oh i'll just throw in the laundry, let me unload the dishwasher...
- there is lot's of food there
+ get a unique phone line for work. let it go to voicemail at the end of the day.
- if you don't you'll end up working 24/7/365

My detail shop is in my garage so no need to go into the house except to pee or eat. No distractions as I put on my beats wireless headphones and buff away. I document everything (expenses, travel mileage to pick up and deliver vehicles, and garage space) And I get to pick up, detail and return some pretty cool vehicles. Not a bad gig.
