Default Nap Time

For the past year or two I have been taking a nap every day. Of course some of it has to do with the fact I often stay up really late. Last night I went to bed at 2:30 AM. And that's not unusual for me when staying up to watch a movie. I try to get 8 hours sleep but my norm is more like 6, so a good nap really helps during the day.

How long is the best nap. Here's what NASA says:

I take naps some days. I let my body do what it wants. I used to feel like I shouldn't because it means I'm lazy but then I decided who cares? Often times it refreshes me enough to get done what I wanted to afterwards, like riding my ElliptiGO or doing household chores.

I frequently get hit with the spontaneous nap around 4-5 pm.
I can be sitting in front of my computer and the next thing I know is I'm waking up.
Yes I sleep sitting up.

I'm not a napper unless I'm sick. If I nap, it's a serious in the bed, under the covers, nap. I generally average 7-8 of sleep/night, which is enough for me. Rick, on the other hand, stays up a bit later. Generally after lunch, like right now, he dozes off for 30-40 minutes if we have nothing else going on. He also tends to doze off during the evening news after dinner. He can't seem to make himself go to bed much before midnight and is up by 7:30. I don't think he gets enough "good sleep" at night, but isn't interested in a sleep study.

Some days I take a nap although not intentionally. It just happens!

When I was working I would catch a few winks at lunch time. Everybody including the owner would not wake me up unless it was an emergency!

I used to need to take a nap after work every day without fail for years until I got my CPAP machine and it changed my life. Being at a healthy weight helps a lot but doesn't take away my sleep apnea. Now I just take naps here and there and they are quite enjoyable. Before the CPAP machine I would wake up every morning, exhausted, like I had a prize fight during the night. Even after long naps, I would still feel exhausted.

But now I enjoy those sporadic naps so much more.

Im a late nighter too Dave. However, I fall asleep on my comfortable couch around 10 and wake up several hours later. So I get about 3 hours on the couch then I go to bed and get up around 7. That adds up to about 9 hours sleep broken up.

How long is a nap before it just becomes going to sleep? 1 hour? 2 hours?

I had a nap last night.
even though I went to bed at 12:30 I tossed until 3:40
I was up as 7:00 to meet the heating repair guy.
So a little more than 3 hours total. that isn't sleep, that's a nap
I suspect i'll be revisiting slumberland as soon as he's done.

He gets 7.5 hours which is the just shy of the recommended 8. If his sleep is not interrupted that should be enough. Of course everyone is different. I always pee around 4AM but go right back to sleep. I blame it on my late evening G&T.
