Default Need new Nikon

I'm going to have to replace my old Nikon D70S. About a third of my Spring Fling trip pics last week were corrupted, so it's finally time. The flash cap has not snapped down for a while now (I was using duct tape) , and I have to re-press the card into the receptor slot often, just as I need to shoot a photo.

I talked to Roy about it at SF, as I was admiring his super Canon, and he mentioned that the Nikon D7000 is excellent. I am going to stay with Nikon, because my VR Nikkor lenses are very good and I want to continue to be able to use them on the new body. I was considering the D90 body, but maybe the D7000 is the way to go. (The D700 is way out of my price range.)

I'd welcome comments or suggestions...

Jim, that looks like a excellent camera. Just read some reviews and it seems to be a good step up.

I think cameras from Nikon and Canon are where computers where a few years ago. Every 6 - 12 months, Nikon or Canon seem to come out with a better camera, and then the other needs to meet or better it.

I don't think you can go wrong with either, and because of your lens, I will say to stay with Nikon.

I don't know about Nikons, Jim, but I too would stay with Nikon since you've got the lenses. Picturepro shoots with Nikons. Maybe he can throw in his opinion.

I sent Bill (Picturepro) a PM.

My wife uses D90 and she likes it a lot. It is a bit temperamental but it takes great pictures. I recommend it highly.

I just sold my D7000 yesterday here in Houston. It was a great camera and a huge upgrade over the D5000 and decent upgrade over the D90. I'm not very familiar with Canon cameras, but the D7000 is definitely worth every penny imo and the way to go.

Jim, here's the pertinent part of Bill's reply...

"New nikons, well Nikon and Canon "professional cameras" were made in sendai Japan and new stuff will be hard to get because of the radiation and Tsuanami. I dont think Normal with ever be again. Costco has a 35mm style D7000 16mp with 18-200 lens great package for just over +2000, Its a Pro sumer camera
with video and lots of great features. Next would be D3100 14mp consumer packaged with 18-55 and 55-200mm package $929.00. Other point and shoot cameras, so many no real opinion, look at all brands

Keep in mind I have been a Nikon Life shooter, since my first one in 1980 High school

Hope this helps Jim
