Battery in my Jag died. It was 5 years old. The car was just sitting in the parking lot for 5 days during sub freezing weather. I kinda knew the battery was ready to go, but I didin't change it untill it died. Here are some fun battery facts.

1. If your battery dies at an airport, go back inside and ask for motorist assistance. The came and jump started me for nothing.

2. Go to a parts store to get a new battery. Dealers charge twice as much.

3. If you have a battery charger, attach it to your battery terminals before you disconnect. Carefully remove the terminals with the charger cables still attached to the terminals. This will save all your electronic settings and your radio will not "code out" which requires a trip to the dealer.

4. If your check engine light comes on because of a dead battery, change out the battery, then keep driving the car for a week. The dealer told me that eventually, the engine light will go out.

Better yet, we can get the same kind and have our own little s-l-o-w drive.

 

Look at the bright side of things, Bill;

1) If your car won't start after sitting in the cold at a New York City airport, the chances are better than even that your battery was stolen.

2) If you buy if from a kid on the street, the chances are you are buying your own battery back.

 

I just replaced my S battery a couple months ago. Almost 5 years to the day after it was 'birthed'

I was playing the radio for an hour w/o engine running..... :deadasadoornail: Luckily, the local dealer near Gettysburg was open for Saturday am service and had an 'S2000' battery in stock.

Now Bill has me wondering if any ol' NAPA or Midas or Pep Boys store would have had a battery to suit...

 

Speaking of batteries I'm starting to think that the one in my daily driver is 'supernatural'. I bought my truck 7 years ago and got it used, it was three years old at the time, and I have never replaced the battery. I was going to replace it last year but it tested fine. It has been below zero every morning this week and the truck continues to start right up.

 

I never get more than 5 years out of a battery.

Local parts stores have mos batterys. If my S battery died, I would look into the light weight Optima battery.

 

I got tired of my rarely used S2000 always having a dead battery. Last week installed one of these battery terminal disconnect switches from www.jegs.com



Now the computer, radio and subwoofer amp can't drain the battery dead without my permission. Of course, the ECM is off also, and the radio doesn't store stations.

Compromises.

I had Walmart give me TWO free batteries but I got tired of running back there for a new battery every six months.

 

If I remember correctly our S' battery has a warranty that is longer than the 3/36 factory one. I seem to remember having some info in my with my owners manual on this. I'll have to check next time I'm in the car.
