Default New Bed

My son got a new bed yesterday. He is trying to keep the dog off of it and train her to sleep on the floor. The dog has her own dog bed, but she like to sleep in the bed with my son. Now you all know about that.

the dog may smell that the bed is different but once a dog has been allowed to sleep on a bed it is very very difficult to change.
he's allowed 'normal' pack behavior of sleeping together.
So now he has to re-assert territorial dominance.

Sounds scary. He says she stays on the floor while he is awake, but in the morning, she is back in the bed.

We do not allow our dog to sleep in our bed or even in our bedroom. She is relegated to the basement at night so she'll sleep in her own bed.

^^ No, she's become quite accustomed to the arrangement. Sometimes she'll even retreat to her "bedroom" when we're watching tv or doing things around the house.

My Collie never went upstairs to the bedrooms. He stayed on the first floor.

My current dog sleeps in our room most times but in her bed.

Get the dog a pillow and have it sleep on it during the day, then after awhile have Chris move it to his bedroom. The dog should regcognize it as her own and may prefer to sleep on it.

Our spoiled dog has a choice of two beds (guest beds....). She is not allowed on ours and I've never seen her on it.
