The Lotus Elise has only 190hp.

With Mazda, you always gotta wonder how they measure their horsepower, judging by past experience.

Looks nice - the steering wheel kinda blows, though - in an outdated sort of way (retro vs outdated, but I don't like it).

I've always liked the Miata. If not for the S I'd probably have bought one. The new one looks good.

I test drove a Miata before buying the S2000. For me, the advantages of the Miata were cleaner styling (in the second generation; I don't like the new one) and smaller size (so obviously I don't consider "roomier" to be an "improvement"). But even the Mazdaspeed version just didn't have enough power for me.

Which is fine; acceleration is not the Miata's niche. Affordability and fun are.

I think Miata is here to stay though S2K may not be. Even though S2K is more exclusive vehicle, Mazda obviously had better business sense regarding their convertible which is a shame for Honda. That goes on to show the race is not always to the swiftest.

I think that it is interesting that Honda has remained true to the "spirit" of the S by not offering it with an automatic transmission. I think it would be interesting to see the stats on the break down on the Miata in the following areas:

Female versus Male buyers
Automatics versus Manual

A Car Talk (Click & Clack) poll named the Miata one of the top ten most popular cars with females.
