oh puh-leaze
She has been deeply humiliated by this unfortunate incident. Perhaps she feels that she is owed some kind of compensation for the uptick in the ratings. After all, it was at her expense. She could have laughed alongside us but I guess she is not very humorous. I am just saying.

So, if you stumble into a fountain while texting... well.... be prepared to watch it on youtube!
We need to stop being so politically correct in this country..... no one owes anyone anything.... unless they earn and deserve it!
That goes for good and bad!
Regarding the OP...Initially I had the same reaction. But consider this: The fountain diving lady did, in fact, think her accident was foolish and more than a little funny. She admits laughing at herself as she returned to dry land. Her issue was with the security staff who thought it appropriate to share her foolishness with the world and I'm at least a little sympathetic with her on that score.
How would you feel if the dumbest thing you have done in the last few years was captured on video that went viral complements of professionals who were paid to observe such videos. Lets say you did something really dumb at the drive up automated teller and the bank staff decided it needed to be on youtube. Would you enjoy being the brunt of humiliating jokes and jibes among your friends, family, and coworkers for weeks or months? Personally I don't think I'd be all that upset but I can't say for sure having never had the experience. I do know plenty of people who I think would be mortified.
Call me old school but I always felt that society's (rapidly diminishing) respect for privacy was at least partly a recognition that we all have a few harmless but embarassing little secrets we would prefer to protect.

Again, I challenge anyone to watch that video and can positively identify the person who fell into the fountain as Cathy Cruz Marrero. Her "secret" was protected until she step forward and told the world that she was the person in the video -- but we don't really know for sure, do we? Supposed the real person who fell into the fountain was too humiliated to come out and identify him/herself, but this Cathy person is a "publicity whore" (as cthree called them) and she wanted to get some money out of this and claimed that she was the person.
It won't happen, but I think the mall and the security company should refuse to settle and take this thing to trial. Then the "victim" would have to relive all the publicity, well after it's faded away from this initial surge. It would be interesting to see what a jury would say. HPH
well mike, I've done stupid things in my life and I'm the first to laugh at them.
and then I try to chronicle them so my friends can share a chuckle at my expense, although in reality it isn't costing me a dime.
I'm sure I've been a buffoon before and I strongly suspect without any reservation whatsoever, I'll be one again.
As long as I haven't got a life in my hands or somebody else's fortunes, I hope somebody almost busts a rib becuase they are laughing so hard.
Life is too short not to share a smile.
