This thread deserves to stay here.
my nephew has been living this for 11 months.
He contracted covid in doing his job, as a nurse, caring for people and watching them die.
Just living the dream.

They want to protect the vulnerable like those in nursing homes. They just don't want the government to shut down their business or arrest people for not having something on their face.

Just like castigating mask-advocates isn't good, neither is castigating those opposing what they believe is government overreach. The two sides may disagree on the best approach to the pandemic, but both sides are generally interested in good outcomes too. Demonizing each other only furthers division, distrust, and erodes our social fabric. Not all pro-mask/lockdown folks are precaution fascists, and not all pro-choice/liberty folks are ignorant conspiracy theorists.
Welcome heavy thinker. But don't over think it. How does pro-choice enter into the discussion? You lost me after that comment. So rethink.

Jub, as I noted in another thread. We vintage can not live in a vacuum. We live in a country polarized on any topic you can think of. So thanks for your input. But, shorter would be better as old farts have a short attention span.

Jub, this forum avoids political discussions. There is however a sub forum where paid members may express their political views.
I opened a political covid discussion over a year ago.

I don't know how long you've been following this forum but I was the first to post about the corona-virus in late January last year. " Coronavirus isn't a beer"
I had been watching Wuhan.
At that point I starting discussing the issues facing the country if we didn't act.
That was prior to our first recognized case. Before anyone in the US was known sick or had died.
My son lives a few blocks from the first outbreak in Seattle.

So let's cut to the chase. Science is science. To paraphrase the Mercedes Ad, it's science or it isn't.
I am a Sr Principal Engineer which is simply applied Science, My wife is a Senior Scientist at a major drug company.
There are 527,000 dead in this country who honestly should not be and that is science based fact as well.
Anyone with half a brain knew this was coming 5, 10, 15 years ago. We saw it in 1918 and we knew another would be coming we just didn't know when.
We are fortunate the ground work for the corona virus spike research was done starting 15 years ago which allowed the rapid generation of today's vaccine.
We are lucky a curious professor developed PCR because he found some weird bacterium in a hot pool in Yellowstone.

But to the original post of this thread. Wear the damn mask. "It saves lives." and to quote Sean Spicer "Period. End of story."

Vacuum resealed. My bad for being a heretic in the church of science. I will go out and yell at 5 people who are not wearing masks to atone for my dissent.

All jokes aside, I do appreciate the general civility that ensued within this thread. Hopefully within a few months, we can look back and laugh about the fact that masks were ever a debated topic.

You hit the nail on the head Dave. We are making good progress getting needles in arms. But we are a long way from finish the line. So why are some states allowing people to not wear masks especially with 5 variants present. This is inconsiderate dangerous and stupid. The example of what front line workers are going through
is spot on. God bless all of them. Thanks for sharing.
