Kyras, very nice pics. Up around Kennedy Meadows? I love the high desert environment. I also love high dessert so I never have to worry about misspelling.

We'll expect to see the S with the California poppies come this spring.

I've been very happy with my Viking IntelliFlash USB reader - handles SmartMedia & SD (which I use), also MMC, CompactFlash and Memory Sticks. $16.84 at Amazon - a great deal!

Viking Intelliflash 6-in-1

Yes, it was. Bonita Meadows is just up in that riding area near Troy and Menache Meadows. Have you been there before? If it's been awhile, did you know that you can't ride down at Kennedy Meadows any more? That's why the dual-sport comes in handy. We ride from our trailer in Kennedy up the 10 miles on pavement to the legal forest riding.

For others who are price shopping, go to BizRate.com. I put in a camera number and it comes up with prices that vary by over $200, with customer satisfaction ratings on each vendor.

I think your provisional choice of the Nikon 5700 is an excellent one. The only slight drawback to the incredible zoom range of that lens is you do lose out slightly at the wide-angle end of the zoom range, so it depends what sort of pics you intend to take. IIRC it's 35mmm at the wide angle end which can be a bit restrictive indoors and for some group shots (people and cars )

Check out the Nikon 5400 which is 28mm at the wide angle end of the zoom, and is more pocketable, being capable of being slipped into any roomy pocket.
