They shouldn't have buried him at sea. They should have fed his body to the hogs.

Worked for Pershing.

For several days after 9/11, the news shows, besides focusing on the travesty itself, were full of film of folks in various middle eastern places celebrating in the streets -- waving flags, chanting victory slogans, all sorts of stuff. I found all that to be pretty disgusting.

Now, we have film of folks celebrating in the streets of NYC and elsewhere -- waving flags, chanting victory slogans, all sorts of stuff. How, I'm wondering, is that not just as disgusting?

To the extent that this is a victory -- and surely it is -- the administration, the CIA, and the SEALs (especially the SEALs) deserve a hearty "well done!" And you can't blame anyone involved in the real-time event for sharing a few high-fives and so on.

But to celebrate this sort of thing as if it were a Super Bowl win? Maybe we and the Palestinians are not so different, after all. HPH

Had this same discussion this morning.
The world is a much better place today, but the celebrations seems just as extreme.

Respectfully I disagree with both of you. Americans needs to celebrate her victory. We are all people and just like you found disgust in celebrations of American deaths by dancing in the streets of Islamabad, people here need to celebrate. It's not only a demonstration of victory but of solidarity in showing strength to our enemies. Strength and popular solidarity are great weapons of war. I think it's a natural human trait.

The skin of culture is thin when it comes to war and just like the famous picture of the sailor and the lady at the end of ww2, this becomes a cultural event.

For too long the only kind of demonstration that has seemed to be acceptable is one of Anti American demonstration here and abroad. My little stint with the Tea Party has taught me differently. I'm proud to publicly demonstrate America's success against it's enemies as well as against it's things I think are a mistake.

Well done SEALS & CIA. Nice to win one for a change. Besides killing the bastard, one can only hope they found a treasures worth of information into that organization. As for the celebrations, how is that any different than those in our past when we celebrated the end to other war campaigns? I'm fine with it.

Agreed. Although, I am feeling somewhat cheered in the knowledge that this event may succeed in finally bumping all the mindless prattle about the royal wedding crap out of the news cycle.
