Default Peter Jennings Dead at 67

While it is regrettable to hear that Peter Jennings died last night, are the networks and news channels making too much fuss over it?

Sometimes I get the impression they think more about themselves as personalities than the news itself.

Am I wrong?

Don't know if there's too much fuss over it, but many people spent the evening with this man, who always seemed to report the news with dignity. The media "personalities" certainly believe themselves to be of more importance than they really are.

Once again.....

I love it when the news folk interview each other to find out......what? What each of them thinks about the other real news.... it's pathetic

I really liked him...no question that on-air personalities and looks are important. It's sad that he smoked - a totally preventable death.

I wonder if they think we are interested in watching hours of eulogizing any time one of their news readers or executives dies, or if it's written into their contracts that there must be public mourning?

It's the same way with newspapers. If an editor or publisher of the LA Times dies it seems to rate a quarter of the front page.

It is a shame that Peter Jennings died at the age of 67. That is far too young for anyone to die. The world lost a pretty good reporter and anchorperson.

That the networks will try to make more of his death is expected. Everyone thinks that their own industry and their own job is the most important one there is. The media is more visible and therefore more able to put their own in the spotlight. This has been going on for a very long time. The reporter is now a part of the story, and oftentimes the whole story.

I personally don't have anything against some media attention being given to one of the three major anchors for the last 30 some years. Peter Jennings deserves recognition for having done his job faithfully though I don't agree with his political views. He ought to be considered as one of the celebrities and like all celebrities when they die, they pay tribute to one of the giants in media business. That is just my opinion.

It is unfortunate that he died at age 67. I wish he could have gone trout fishing with Tom Brokaw and Dan Rather in their exclusive club.

I think people will seriously think about quitting smoking with his death reminding them of their own increased chance of early death due to smoking. Adieu, Peter Jennings!

Is there such a thing? So far no one has managed the trick.
