Default Phobias

Here's a list of some weird phobias. Do you have a specific overwhelming fear of something? I have a bit of pharmocophobia, or a fear of taking drugs. I can overcome this at times if I reassure myself repeatedly that the drug is ABSOLUTELY necessary, but I read every possible reaction it could cause, follow the directions to the letter and exercise caution even with aspirin. I came across this list of unusual fears and thought it was interesting.

Automatorsophobia - Fear of the ventriloquist dummy

Followed closely behind by coulrophobia - Fear of clowns

Coprastasophobia - Fear of constipation

Keraunothnetophobia - Fear of a satellites plummetting to earth

Phasmophobia - Fear of ghosts

Androphobia - Fear of men

Gynophobia - Fear of women

Odontophobia - Fear of teeth

Phobophobia - Fear of fear

Triskaidekaphobia - Fear of the number thirteen

Paraskavedekatriaphobia- Fear of Friday the 13th

Theophobia - Fear of God

Satanophobia - Fear of satan

Bogyphobia- Fear of the bogeyman

Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia- Fear of long words (funny, why rub it in!)

Geniophobia- Fear of chins

Genuphobia- Fear of knees

Liticaphobia - Fear of lawsuits

Telesphobia - Fear of being last

Talk to some very people. The above seems to occupy their thoughts 24/7.

I'm not too fond of heights myself. I wonder if that comes from being so close to the ground all these years. Since I'm only 5' tall .

What a strange world when there are actual named phobias for things like satellites falling to earth and fear of knees or teeth. What on earth would cause someone to be afraid of knees?

Personally, all of my phobias are totally rational. They include heights and closed spaces for the most part. I've overcome my fear of dying in a fire which required unplugging every appliance, lamp, radio, tv, etc. in the house every night when I was much younger. And yes, I am probably extremely strange but if you haven't figured that out by now, you've haven't been paying attention!

Me too! - In my case it has to do with the fact that I have no depth perception. Try as I might to convince myself of the fact that its only 4 or 5 ft to the ground, it looks a mile down when I am on a step ladder. On the other hand when I was flying patrol in a helicopter, I was perfectly fine. I guess it's becasue I had my but firmly planted in the seat!
Someone explained this to me once as being because there is no direct tie between you and the ground, as in the side of a building or the ladder, therefore the height issue isn't the same. I don't know if that's true or not, but I do know that being terrified of a 6' stepladder, I'm still not bothered in a ski-lift chair or plane or whatever. Just don't put me on a tall bridge or building.

Yes, I have a phobia, if I see one of these I have to kill it, no matter how big or small, if I don't kill it them I'm sure it will come after me. there is no logic to this, it is fear, straightforward fear!!!
