Possible Cape Cod Meet
Hi gang. It has been a while since the last Nor'easter, and I'm not sure we will ever do it again. It's too bad, because I really enjoy playing host here in New England.
Lately, I've been thinking about hosting a big meet on Cape Cod this summer. It would be great to have the gang on the Cape for some beach and boating fun, plus all the activities the Cape offers during the summer months. We could do the lighthouse drive, a ride to Hyannis, and maybe a trip up to Ptown. We can see a winery or two, visit some of the museums and play some mini golf. I'll have the whoe gang over my house for the fish fry and maybe a boat trip to a nearby island. You know I'll come up with plenty of things to do if there is any interest.
This would be the peak season for the Cape, so you couldn't really expect a low priced hotel or an easy Friday afternoon commute through southeastern Massachusetts. The best bet would be to think of this meet as part of a longer vacation. You would want to try to get to the Cape sometime the week before. I'll probably take the day off on Thursday, so if some of you wanted to arrive a day early, we can plan something for Thursday afternoon and evening.
If you have to squeeze the trip into a weekend, you really should plan to arrive at the Cape on Friday morning and certainly no later than Friday at one PM to avoid the traffic. The other option is to approach the Cape late on Friday evening, after 8:00PM. This will avoid the rush to the Cape, but you will be arriving pretty late and may miss any Friday night activities we plan. If you hit Southeastern Mass around 5:00 PM you will be facing two or more hours of bumper to bumper traffic. Trust me, you don't want to do that.
The departure would be a lot easier. Our meets typically break up on Sunday morning. You could depart Sunday morning and get over the bridge easily. There is very little traffic on Sunday mornings. If you wait until Sunday afternoon, you will again hit plenty of traffic. So if you want to spend the day at the Cape on Sunday, plan to stay the night and leave on Monday morning, after about 8:00 AM. I'll be down there anyway, so if there is enough interest, I'll plan something for Sunday too.
So I'm pretty flexible about this. It could end up being a four plus day event, Thursday through Monday morning. You can come for as little or as much as you like. I don't really care about how many of you sign up. If only five couples wanted to come, I'd be happy to see you. If 40 couples wanted to do this, I'd have to look for some help.
I would schedule this for July some time after the 4th or August. So please let me know here if you are interested in attending such a meet this year and what month would work better for you. If I get enough interest, I'll try to refine some of the details and look into hotels and motels.
Thanks.

Since we aren't making it to SF this year, by this summer I will NEED a meet! This is almost in our backyard. Depending on the date, we should be in for at least some of the events.
I'll be watching for more info.

Sounds great. Unfortunately for your July/Aug sked, I think the +1 will be traveling to NJ/NY/Canada with his kids sometime during the mid-July/mid-Aug timeframe. And we are flying to CA at the end of Sept for the Homecoming II Meet. I would love to make this, though, so perhaps would come alone.

^ It will be a two-week period sometime between July 9 and Aug 9, probably. I don't think he's firmed up the dates, yet, but will soon.
EDIT: I just realized that we are going to Boston sometime in the Spring of next year to visit a Navy buddy of the +1, who is slated to become Commander of the USS CONSTITUTION. So that makes me think we won't be able to do both. But I'll check. When we come up in 2011, we will certainly try to get together with you and other Boston-area members! I don't think the +1 has been to Boston, but I went up there a couple of years ago for a Fairbanks family reunion, including a visit to the Fairbanks House (historic family home from 1636 in Dedham, MA).
