Default Post office - reduced hours

It appears some of the smaller branch offices of the US Postal Service in our area have curtailed their hours.

I rarely have to go to the post office. Stamps by mail, email, fax, etc.

The post office in my town has reduced hours...The window now opens at 10:00 vs the previous 8:30. I'm not even sure how long or if they are open on Saturdays. They no longer handle/sort any mail there. If you have a letter to pick up, you will have to drive to a larger post office a few miles away.

Today at lunch I had a small package to mail. There is another small branch I will use when in the area of my office. I headed there on my lunch hour, only to find a sign on the door that says window is closed at lunch 1:00-2:00. Too bad for those trying to do errands on the lunch hour.

I guess this is a sign of things to come. Higher rates, reduced service, almost like your health insurance company.

I'm guessing these reduced hours are happening in your area as well, and before long many of the smaller branches will close.

I imagine the local "postage stamp" sized post office will be on the list for reduced hours, if not closure. The one mail clerk runs the small one room post office along with the rural mail delivery man. I still occasionally receive mail with just my name and city as the address, I guess it helps to have a delivery man that knows the people on his route well.

Our local 19072 PO covers at least 10,000 customers...but it's a 10 minute walk from our house. It's still open the same hours, but a nearby PO 19096 is rumored to be closing soon

Last week we DID RECEIVE a letter addressed with only our last name + town + state (no street address or ZIP). It's amazing that we received it at all, but it was stamped with this message: "Mail delayed due to incomplete address"

Our PO has a single employee for the counter and one letter carrier. The hours have always been limited.

They are losing money, but one of my neighbor's who is a postal employee, is being relocated to New York. They (we) bought his home and are paying for his move.

The local small offices have been closing for lunch for quite sometime now.

Nope. Didn't even know it started happening already. What worries me more is that our local police department (sheriff) is only open from 10-2 week days an not open on weekends. I can't get there during those times to discuss with them an issue we may be having here at the house.
