Right now that's at the top of my list after doing reviews all morning. Their latest looks really good. $140 at B&H (but they are out of stock) and $150 at Best Buy. Probably order tomorrow since mine is dead in the water.

I have a Brother fax machine that has one black and three color cartridges. I have replaced the color cartridges at least three times and I have NEVER printed anything in color! Not once! (evaporates?) And if any cartridge is empty, I can't print a fax even in black ink. What a ripoff.

I always turn mine off when not in use. I presume you do the same?

No, it's my biz fax and sometimes I get things on weekends, late nights etc. Would turning it off make a difference? The ink would still be sitting unused in the ink compartment, just like it is all the rest of the time.

I was always told to turn it off when not in use (end of each day or any extended period it won't be used) as it helps prevent ink from drying and clogging inside the print nozzles. I believe it has to do with heat and where/how the ink cartridges park themselves. I believe newer printers are "Energy Star Compliant" and turn themselves off when not in use. In any case, I always have mine off via the printer's on/off button unless I intend to use it right away.

That's the model I have. It has worked flawlessly for me. It's fairly fast and not too bad on ink. However I don't use it to make photos, just printing and copying text.
I bought it on sale on Amazon for around $125 (shipped) as I recall.

Good to hear. I bought the Canon MX882 at Best Buy today for $150. Of course by the time I bought spare ink (a mere $58 for five) and some glossy paper ($16) and tax, it was almost $240. At least I should be set for a while.

It's sitting beside on the backbar waiting for me to figure it out! These all-in-one machines have more trap doors than at the Penn State's coach's house.

A further note Dave. My ink cartridges are in a compartment on the right side of the fax and do not move. There is no heat near it, in fact, no heat felt anywhere on the machine. I'm thinking that the ink evaporates over time. Where else could it be going? They should have made it more self contained so it wouldn't be subject to leaks or evaporation, but then they wouldn't make money selling the stupid cartridges.
