I think I am right in saying the “punk” movement started in mid-70s. Nose piercing & ear piercing combined with extreme clothing with chains, etc. was all meant to shock straight people. But when did that look really start?
I am from northwest Pennsylvania where the Seneca Indians lived decades before. One of them, a chief, became known as Chief Cornplanter by the British. I came across this portrait by F. Bartoli done in 1796.
Look at his ears! Look at his piercings! His clothing! He was definitely punk before there was punk.
I leave that for professionals. I got my first mod just after birth
on the Tattoo front. It's like a permanent bumper sticker but for your body.
I can't think of anything that I would want someone to assess me or to define me from.
and then there is the slightly antisocial side which doesn't really care enough what anyone else thinks for me to even bother.
There is one possible exception, putting where my stents and bypasses are located, tattooed on my chest above my heart.
I did read about a guy who had "do not resuscitate" on his upper chest in big letters.

Handsome Indian. I don’t think anyone would laugh at him with that tomahawk he is holding. I wonder if that guy with the tattoo on his neck couldn’t afford to pay for an advanced directive.
Big fan of punk here. I would say that the punk music sound actually started back in the 60's with bands like the Stooges, but the "movement" yeah, started in the 70's.
I must have caught the latter part of it , during the 80's, mostly music with bands like Devo, Sex Pistols, Ramones. I had a friend who was really into it and he kept pushing it on me and my other friends, I gravitated to Heavy Metal music though .
Given my age and growing up out in the sticks in middle America, I did not get exposed to it as much until we moved into town and I started skateboarding. So that was what got me more into punk. Stooges, Black Flag, Faction, Misfits, Minor Threat, Dead Kennedys, Sex Pistols, etc. But I also like metal and hardcore as well.
