A sad day. She lived a very long life.

My father and his maternal ancestors were born in Barrow-in-Furness, England.

After my grandfather died, my grandmother came to live with us, in a very nicely finished area in our basement.

One of my memories of my grandmother is that she had a picture of Queen Elizabeth hanging in her living area, the Coronation picture if I recall correctly. It may have been from a calendar. That picture was hanging in my grandmother's room forever. I wish I had that picture.

Yes, RIP. Lots of not-so-peaceful events in recent years, but she always kept on carrying on. Hard to picture Charles as King Charles III.

May she RIP, I respect all she has done in her life.

But I am not a supporter of the idea of any monarchy anywhere in the world. Those who are coming up behind the queen have very few redeeming qualities IMO, and many countries within the commonwealth want out. Monarchies have long outlived their usefulness.

I have a family name that ends in a vowel, and I always wonder why my family name can't ever be considered royalty ? Blue blood is a very odd concept to me.

I was just a toddler when she was crowned but it must have been a big deal at my house because I can remember it. I've always been a bit of an anglophile so I openly wept when I heard the news. She was a very great Lady and lived her life in service to her country. There are none like her. This is a very sad day.
