ramjets at mach 7
Did anyone notice the second test of the sccramjet developed by the military. It was 14 feet long hit mach 7 and didn't cost much to build.
While they were touting LA to NY in 20 minutes from a civilian standpoint, it sure looked like a cheap intercontinental hypersonic cruise missle delivery system.
Imagine a mach 7 tomahawk that cost a 20th of the current ones.
On the other hand it might allow SpaceshipOne to acheive orbit capability.
They used to sell ramjet motors in the back of comic books.

This technology is amazing, and in 30 years could revolutionize our work environment. Can you imagine driving to JFK or O'Hare or LAX and working in Asia, Europe, or the Mid-East, then flying home for the night?
Absolutely stunning.
Thanks for that UFO technology. Weather ballons over Roswell my butt!

The "ramjet" in the back of the comic books wasn't really a ramjet.
The V1 rocket from WWII was.
As for the commercial air travel uses for the SCRAM-jet, I wouldn't hold my breath. The SST programs were killed by misinformation and fear of "sonic booms" so I would think that probably the SCRAM jets will be scuttled because of the ruination of the ozone layer or "hypersonic" boom. Too bad. The possibilities are endless and exciting.

The V1 was a rocket, not a ram jet. The ramjet for sale in the comics was a ramjet. I don't know what the V2 was. Maybe that was a ramjet. I always thought the ramjet principle was very easy but the problem was controlling the thrust.
Bet ya a beer the V1 was a rocket

The V1 was a "pulsejet". The V2 was a rocket.
The environmental consequences of flying a large number of airplanes high into the stratosphere are not well-known at this time, but they are potentially very severe. That's the sort of thing that is being researched right now, with that NASA money that Bill wants to cut.

Pulse jet is a form of ramjet. They were rocket assisted on launch.
The ramjet in the comics was a push liquid fueled rocket. But I'll buy you a beer anyway.
