Default Recommendations for a good scotch

Looking to get a bottle of scotch for my neighbor, who has been generous enough to lend me his trap, come kill the caught skunks (2 so far), and take away the dead critters!

I know he is a scotch drinker, so I'd like to repay him with a bottle of scotch and a box of hollow point 22 rounds (which I already have)!

Recommendations?

If I have to pay more for the scotch.... I'm OK with that also.

Here surprise him with your knowledge. Get him a bottle of this.
Yamazaki 12 Year Single Malt Japanese Whisky
Probably the best single malt I've ever tasted and it's fairly reasonable. $50 a bottle

Excellent and a real surprise for a scotch drinker.

As I said somewhere else, if he can dispose of dead skunks chances are he doesn't have any sense of taste or smell so buy the cheap stuff and put it in a fancy bottle!

Glad I could help.

Glenfiddich 25 (not the 30 year old, you can't afford that). Should run around $250 a bottle but worth every penny.

I'll just let the skunks roam the backyard for that amount of $$$

First off, why did you kill them versus relocate them several miles away? Although I think that I know the answer to that question. But, on the other hand skunks make good pets if found young enough.

Regarding the question at hand that is a bit hard to answer as a Scotch drinker myself. The answer to that question is whether he prefers blends or single malts? If the answer is the former (blends) that is easy if he prefers a smokey taste: Johnny Walker Double Black is the easy answer. How ever if he prefers single malts that becomes a bit trickier. As there are five regions of Scotland that produce single malts and each has a distinct taste (some peaty, some not so, etc.). So it really boils down to one's taste. Personally, I have not found a single malt that I like as much as Johnny Walker Black and Double Black. IMHO Scotch is a bit like art work: It is not so much about it's cost, but how much one likes it. Each to their own.

Reasons why we did not relocate them....

1. Around here you are not allowed to relocate them
2. I don't think Kathy would let me transport one of them varmits in her truck!
3. Couldn't get a collar around their neck to hold the leash

1. I believe that in the state of Ohio you can not relocate them unless they have been tested for rabies.
2. You have a convertible, why do you need to use Kathy's car?
3. If you train them right you don't need a leach/collar!
4. Only in Vintage!!

Re the Scotch...Not everyone likes every single malt scotch. They can be quite distinctive from each-other in flavor and mouth feel. I am a long-time Scotch drinker and I have yet to find a single malt that I prefer to good old Johnny Walker Black. Johnny Walker Green as wonderful but expensive. Never ran across the double-black. May not be available in Mississippi.

Anyway, if you don't have a subtle way of determining his preferences, a bottle of Johnny Walker Black will likely be welcomed. I would stay away from anything with "Old" in the name. eg: Old Smugglers 10 Day Old Special Reserve...probably a poor choice.
