Default Refrigerator Ice Maker

Good evening all ..........
I have a fairly old Whirlpool refrigerator (but I think they all work the same - new or old) in the basement that I keep for ice making, wine chilling, soda and extra stuff. In the past (like maybe 7 times or so) the ice maker stopped making ice and all I did was replace the solenoid valve (actually its called the refrigerator ice maker single water inlet valve) located on the back and bottom of the refrigerator. Last week, however, the water kept flowing running over the ice maker tray into the ice basket, into the bottom of the freezer, down the drain tube, into the evaporator tray and onto the floor. Lucky I caught it in time and all I did was turn off and disconnect the water supply. I have a new valve to put on, but while I was waiting for the part, I was wondering if the sensor or timer located in the ice maker itself is the problem ..........

Anyone have a similar experience?

I believe you're correct, its in the ice maker.

If you'll go to an appliance supply store, (a real one, not a sears, or big box) you will be amazed how helpful they'll be.

Everytime I go to the one here, I get a short course in appliance repair.

Last time I went for repair of my old ice maker the guy gave me an old ice maker like mine, with the used part I needed still in working order.

Look under appliance parts, repair in the yellow pages.
