Default Retrieving messages from answering machine

Ok, non-techie here needs some advice. We still have a home phone connected to an answering machine. Our service is with Comcast (ugh). When we are away we had been able to call a number provided by Comcast and retrieve our messages. We can no longer do this and after 3 frustrating calls to Comcast, who I hate, we are still not able to do this. We both have smart phones through Verizon so is there any way to have our calls forwarded from the home phone to our smart phones? We go away for 2 months soon and I have to record a message on our answering machine for callers to call our cell phones. Once Verizon comes to this area I am dumping Comcast. Thanks.

Got this from the Comcast website: http://customer.xfinity.com/help-and...ll-forwarding/

Seems simple enough.
