Default The reunion thread

Got a call last night from a high school classmate. They were looking for me. A 40th high school reunion is on the horizon, and soon. July 6th. We had a small class 60 or so, and I was told about 35 people have signed up to go. I enjoyed catching up with my classmate. We actually sat together at the last reunion. Not sure if I want to go or not. I'd have to go shopping for something to wear, and just not sure if the whole thing is something I feel like doing.

Rick is not interested in going. That's OK, I went to the last two without him. The 10th wasn't fun, the 20th was.

What to do, what to do????

I don't think I'll be much help. My class voted at the 10th not to have any more reunions.

Lainey, I faced the same quandary as you about attending a class reunion. I went to my 20th, and it was OK. I went to my 35th, and after it, I swore I would never attend another! However, through Facebook, I connected with several of my classmates, and decided to give it one more try, so I attended the 50th, and it was fun! I was never that close to any of my classmates (except for a couple of other nerds), so maybe that's why I was not too interested in going. Plus, I live 400 miles away, and most of my classmates still live in the same county, so even now, I don't have too much in common with them.

I know that doesn't answer your question, but what have you got to lose? If it sucks, then leave!

Now that I've met you, I can understand that!

My sis gave me same advice.... I've not re-connected with high school friends on FB, for whatever reason, no real interest. If I run into someone, after the initial "catch up" I don't feel like I have much to say. It's not like they drive S2000's.

I figure if I haven't been in touch with any of my classmates over the years, there is a reason for it. I've never been to a reunion, and have no desire to go.

That's going to leave a mark.

I have never been to a reunion and have no interest in doing so. Although, I once entertained the idea of sending a very unattractive, red-headed woman in my place and informing everyone that "I" had undergone sex reassignment. I never got around to it. Best laid plans of mice and men.

That joke is on me a bit. I read too fast. I read Mikes comment as "My class voted at the 10th to not have ME" at any more reunions." My comment would have really applied then. If they voted for no reunions, in general, either they just don't care, are lazy and don't want to plan things, they all had a terrible time, too many got arrested, or maybe they just realized they don't like each other. It's not about Mike after all, which takes away my fun at him. Of course I could have kept all this to myself........

Oh and get the redhead in time for the 50th!

^ I think they told him there would be no more reunions so he won't show up.

I've been to two or three of them, but have not gone to the last two and won't go to 40th, assuming they have one.

Lainey, I would go if I was in your situation, with a small class size and the fact that you did enjoy the 20th reunion. What do you have to loose? If it sucks, oh well. If it's fun, you experienced it. Isn't that what life's for?

My high school had a huge graduating class and I was an insecure hermit. I went to the 10th and 20th but not the 30th. I might go if there's a 40th (2015).
