Default Rosetta Mission

Today, the European Space Agency accomplished quite a feat. Their Philae lander landed on the surface of Comet 67P. Quite an accomplishment. They are to be congratulated.

What happened to our space program?

Scoring a 310-million-mile bull's-eye in only ten years. What's the big deal? j/k Awesome.

Rob, I had the same thought as you while I watched the report last night. It is difficult to say much more without talking politics in some general sense so I'll just say that I think the investment in space exploration is very worthwhile and has great benefits beyond the primary mission of the space agency.

NASA has fallen victim to reduced government financing and was especially hit hard by the Budget Control Act of 2011.

I think we should be going back to the moon (should have been well on our way by now) and that we should be planning for manned missions to Mars -- within our lifetimes.

Kudos to the European Space Agency. That was an awesome success.

I know the budget has been cut, but I think the real problem is that we've lost our determination to get things done and meet challenges.
