I just received my reply from bavauto. It seems that the newer BMWs have a different wheel offset and the space saver spare they have will not fit my 328i. They are working on a solution and should have it within a few months.

Their response to me was specifically about the 3 series. Other BMWs might be different.
I hope they develop something for it, Rob.
Bill,

They were nice enough to respond to me a second time after I sent them an e-mail asking them to keep me informed.

They are working on it and hope to have it available within a few months. They expect it to be a bit more expensive because they are using a different compound (aluminum rather than steel I think) for the wheel.

I'm going to buy it as soon as it becomes available and get my trunk back.

Excuse my lack of knowledge but do RFT need to be mounted on special rims or do they use a standard rim?

Well... that's another question. They are very difficult to mount so I would not use them with a cheapo wheel.

Yes,they are special rims.
My question, would be the opposite; Can you install normal tires,on RF rims?

Actually Emil, that is where I was headed. If you had a car with RFTs could you put "regular" tire on the rims?

The other part is dealing with the air pressure sensors.

There are DePax kits available for most cars either via the dealer or aftermarket for those not wanting RFT's on their cars.

I could not find anything to replace the RFT on my Rav4. They don't make a small donut tire and rim for it. If I replaced the RF tires, I would have to carry a full size rim and tire for a spare, not something I am willing to do.

This might fill the bill in lieu of a having to carry a spare. I carry one in the event of a flat, in addition to my AAA card. Fingers crossed I've never had to use either.
