I finally made a decision. I decided to go with Michelin Pilot SuperSport 225/45ZR-18 Star BMW XL, not run flats. They look awfully good, I hope they live up to their reputation. Other than the one mile drive to reset the tire pressure gauge in the car, I really haven't had a chance to try them out.

Nice looking Bemer, Rob. Hope the tires work out for you.

Thanks Jim. I think they should. Actually, it's my first departure from Bridgestone (other than the oem's that came on the car that I hated) in a long, long time.

Well, I'm at the dealership with a nail in the right front tire. Sitting here contemplating a $300 plus service charge and my decision to decline the wheel and tire road hazard protection the dealer tried to sell me when I picked up the car...

Why don't you get AAA? The +1 has it and I got put on his account when I had to fix a flat on his car after he left town. They came out pretty quickly and did a great job. I was stuck in a parking garage at the airport. And not long ago his battery died and they showed up for that in a garage somewhere.

^ Plus I think my USAA auto insurance has roadside assistance coverage.

EDIT - Oops, I forgot you don't have a spare on that car.

Well, I'm sure the car didn't take itself to the BMW dealer. If you take your car to the dealership for a tire problem you pay the penalty and move on. I guess you now know that car dealers are at the Extreme retail end of the tire business.

That sucks, I had the same experience with the X3 so I feel your pain. I was 75 miles from home when I I hit the nail and it was Sunday so I got it plugged at a local garage that was open and drove home very slowly until I got it to the BMW dealership.
