Default Saving a holed piston

We got into another OT discussion. Some of you said you wished you had saved yours. Here's what our MG club did with one of them.

Two of my buddies getting ready to pass out these traveling awards. No one ever wants to get the Hard Luck Award.

What caused it. British engineering or loose nut behind the wheel?

The piston in my post is from a Jaguar that was driven to the a friend's auto shop because it was making some noise.

I've written before I bought it at a small roadside lot. When I went back, the only thing left were the oil stains in the gravel.
They had supposedly rebuilt the engine. I probably drove it too hard coming off of a bad build.
I kept putting money into Andy Granetelli's pocket to keep the engine sounds at bay.
