Default scary database out there

ok so I got an email from amazon today.
We've noticed that customers who have purchased or rated music by Pat Metheny Group have also purchased State of Nature by Stanley Jordan.
funny part is they went on to say it's not released yet

hmmm, i have pat metheny but that was a long time ago...
so I went back and scanned my old emails for the order confirmation.
it was 5 years ago this week.

the EU is putting legislation in to block companies from data warehousing for more than 6 months.
might not be a bad idea.

You actually keep e-mails for 5 years? I might keep something very personal for 5 years, but I'm very curious why anyone would keep an old completed order for a CD from Amazon for 5 years.

My email folders go back at least 5 years. I have been deleting some entire folders....esp if there are attachments. Sometimes it's fun to read old stuff, but there is a lot more that needs to be cleaned out

What I DO do routinely is clear out my "sent" and "delete" folders.

Amazon is a bloodhound, but I still buy a lot of stuff from them. Heck, they probably know where I am at any given time, how much $$ I have in my bank accounts, what I eat, what I wear, what I read, the music I like, etc. etc. Yep, it is a little scary, but just think what your credit card companies know.

and that is my point exactly.

Orwell worried about big brother.
think about the profile you could collect between your credit card compaines, google and amazon.

now imagine your trying to shop competitively and research something.
they have a history which can inform them about how good a shopper you are and the pricing you get may be different than another shopper.

or they may not show you options you want to see becuase 'other people' looked at different things.

having worked in retai, trust me, it can and will happen.
