Shingles
Well just got back from the doctor, and lo and behold, I have shingles. Not all that uncommon, except, I did get the vaccine about 9-10 months ago. Apparently, it is not fully successful in about 20% of recipients, but I am told that my bout should be ameliorated (my word of the day), because I did receive the vaccine.
So far it's a bit of a pain in the ass, no I mean literally, a pain in the butt.
Anyone else afflicted?

Not me. My brother in law had it last year. His was a mild case, but he still felt pretty lousy for a couple of weeks. Glad you saw your doc. A co-worked watied until the rash was bad before he went and he had issues for a while.
I've heard that the vaccine doesn't guarantee you won't get shingles, but I'll take one when my insurance company pays for it, which is in about two years.
Feel better soon.

I had it several years ago. +1 and my daughter had it a couple/years before I got it. It was very painful and burned (it affected the nerve in my neck and up behind my ear). I thought it was an allergic rash but was given Famvir and told to get plenty of rest. It made me quite uncomfortable for several days and felt lousy (weak, lethargic) but it finally cleared up. It must be going around the nation because I ran into a friend who lives in Pawleys Island last week at the doctor's office who had just been diagnosed as well. So sorry, Ken. Hope its a very mild case and goes away soon.
My mother had it and she said it was the most painful thing she ever had… this was someone who had breast cancer treatments, etc. Sorry to hear it did not entirely work. I got my shot as soon as I heard about it and talked +1 into finally doing it as well.

Please do not let my experience with the vaccine influence anyone not to get it. I really do believe in the vaccine, and with my +1 having had it twice, from what I can tell, mine seems to be a much more to the not sever side. I spoke with the pharmacist that administered the vaccine (it's important that they know how many failures occur, statistics, and she reiterated what all the professions have said so far, "even if you do get it, it should be milder, shorter in duration, and much less painful".
So far it's just making me "draggy", but sun, sand and Red Stripes are coming Friday. I will be fine!

My Dad had it and my aunt had it on her face.
