My mother got them in her late 80s and she thought the pain was unreal - and the doctors agreed, so I guess there can be some really bad cases. Hopefully not yours.

I've been there twice, and as others have mentioned shingles are not fun.

Emil,

More info: Shingles is a disease caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. After you have had chickenpox, the chickenpox virus remains inactive in your body in certain nerves. If the virus does become active again, usually later in life, it causes Shingles. More info here

Thank's;did'nt know,that it could reappear.
Glad to know,it's not a desease.

You,the Englishmen(women) are so complicated, with your language ...shingles for desease, and shingles for roofing...

Got a PM from him giving his selections for the Fri night dinner. He said he is feeling stronger, so I'm hopeful for the Fling.

Denis, hang in there, shingles can be very painful. Hopefully yours are not.
when I got them over 10 years ago now, my rash was on my left chest and under my arm area. It was not a large rash but it hurt allot, enough to keep me from sleeping.
So, keep the faith, they will go away.

Has anyone seen any reports on whether shingles are stress related?

Edit: Sorry, ignore. I posted this before I scrolled up and saw Lain's post.

Yep..."Shingles (herpes zoster) is a skin rash caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. Under certain circumstances, such as emotional stress, immune deficiency, or with cancer, the virus re-activates causing shingles. Shingles are catching and can spread from an infected person to others who have not had chickenpox. There are a variety of treatments for shingles."
