Default Shoulder Surgery

I’m told I am a candidate for a shoulder replacement. The first time I heard this was back in 2004. Significant degenerative arthritis of both shoulders continued over the years. Finally in 2015 I went to a orthopedic specialist who assured me the socket & ball are worn out, especially the right side. Of course, I’m right handed. He had surgery set for Sept. The more I thought about being in a sling for 6-weeks and therapy for 4-6 months, I postponed it and said I’ll call when I’m really ready. I called today – yep, after twenty years of pain that has gotten worse every year I’m doing it (I think). I have till mid-Nov to start the consultation process over. Lots of time to chicken out.

Are they proposing the reverse replacement?
FWIW, I've heard the recovery from shoulder replacement may not be as bad as recovery from rotator cuff repair.
I'd bet Texas Jim can give you some helpful hints.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

TBD, I haven't talked the surgeon in 6 years. Probably know more after x-rays, MRI, etc.

Hope I can say the same. I had a doctor friend who had it done. A year later he still could not raise his arm as high as mine with out it. As for the pain, we are all different.

Dave, your third sentence above can be read different ways. I know what you meant, but my first time reading it sounded like your friend no longer had an arm.

My sister has had shoulder surgery on both shoulders and both knees replaced and...

She's getting a shoulder replacement this month. She's been told it's a much easier recovery than the shoulder surgeries she's had. She's going to be 68 years old this month.

Wow! At 76 I feel fortunate not to have any of these joint issues. Just can’t hear or see anything without aids!
