I had dogs growing up and for a long time when I was married. But when I moved to the condo, I felt it was not a place for a dog. And I wanted to be able to go and come without the responsibility. It has worked for me so far. I like to see other people's dogs, though.

What about you, Dave. Have you convinced Donna it's time for another puppy?

^10-27-2019. Atticus is giving Maury a lesson on grass. They are Colorado natives you know, and it's been legal here all their lives.

^10-27-2019. Busted. But it's legal!

Default Fast Friends

It has been a little over a year since we've been without our last Golden Retriever. All of our Goldens have come to us rather serendipitously. Our first (who got us hooked on the breed) actually found us as a stray pup. Our second came by way of a Golden rescue outfit when we showed up at the foster home with the intention of adopting a different dog altogether. Our last one came via the County Animal Shelter (he had just been listed on craigslist before I checked the site — the first time I had ever checked craigslist for dog listings).

Our Black Lab dealt with the loss of our last Golden pretty well. However with the passing of time it was becoming more evident that he was in need of another friend. At 2 1/2 he is full of energy and can grow a bit bored at times. We had been looking into finding another adult Golden but it was dawning on us that this was not likely to happen again any time soon. Then as fate would have it while out walking with a friend my wife encountered a woman who was out walking her Golden Retriever. As she so often tends to do, my wife asked the owner if it was okay to pet her dog. Well, apparently while loving on the dog she was sharing our tale with the owner. Apparently they ended up talking for quite a while. As it turned out, the dog's owner and her husband had been having some difficult discussions about the possibility of finding a new home for their dog for a few different reasons. She and my wife exchanged contact numbers but when my wife told me about this I did not think it was likely to happen.

Well not long after that the dog's owner reached out to my wife and made arrangements to bring her Golden to our house to see how the two dogs would get along. It was immediately obvious to everyone that they would become fast friends. So it was agreed that ours would make a great home for their Golden if that was what she and her husband decided would be best. It has been a month now since this sweet girl came to live with us. She has been adapting to her new home quickly and the two dogs are already joined at the hip, playing constantly. We've never had a female dog in the family in the 25 years that we've had dogs so this is something new for all of us. She is the smallest dog we've owned (our last Golden likely weighed almost twice as much). At just a month younger than our Lab, she is able to match his energy level step for step. While the combined energy level is a bit much at times at their current age, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Over the years more often than not we've had two dogs so it has just sort of become the norm for us. Fortunately their happiness is contagious. The photo below was taken on her first day with us. Bodhi on the left and Una on the right.

I love 'em but boy I bet that they can be chaos on the paws when they get a chance to romp.
