I think it's partly because of the litter box issue, as I'll have to take immunosuppressant drugs for the rest of my life following a transplant. And I'm guessing cat dander could be a potential problem, too, although I've never shown any signs of allergies to cats and dogs.
Luckily for me, Dexter is hypoallergenic being half poodle, he has hair rather than fur, so no shedding or dander issues.

It's generally. advised that transplant recipients have no pets at all, but that isn't happening in my house. I'd rather be dead than have to live without animals in my life.

Have Matt set you up a section of a room or a terrarium for tortoises, so you can keep them inside during the colder weather, and a penned in area in the yard for the warmer months. Tortoise care is relatively inexpensive as is their diet. If you decide to look into it further and would like help or advice, please feel free to ask me anytime. I'd be very happy to help out in whatever way I can.

Dean, did you name your dog after the blood spatter expert? You are/were all three Floridians....

Yes, my dog is named after the serial killer. Actually, Rori picked the name. She became a big fan of Dexter after we had been dating for a while. One of our dates consisted of a marathon session of watching all the seasons of Dexter she had missed.

That pic with the two of them together looking at the camera is amazing. Those eyes! You really got two beautiful cats. And they seem to be getting along famously now.
