I have used Intuit's on line TurboTax system for years with no problems (knock on wood.) My degree is in accounting but I haven't kept up with changes in the tax code over the years.

My taxes are very simple, however. We haven't even itemized for several years.

Exactly the same situation. Do it on line and breeze through; haven't been able to itemize for years either.

Actually the two of you are the perfect/ideal Turbotax users. What you are doing is exactly what you should be doing. If your taxes are simple enough that you can handle them, and you understand where everything goes, Turbo is a very good program.

Still, you should never trust the software. At the conclusion of your doing your taxes, estimate what you think they should be and compare that to the actual outcome. If the Turbo outcome differs greatly from your estimate, look it over again.

Unfortunately our taxes were very simple.
I still don't understand how it blew the import of state data.
As I've been going back into it, intuit probably has an out since they ask "is this correct" on the state import.

I have been using Tax Cut for many years without any problem. I do keep track of all my expenses year round and assign them to tax categories. After going through the tex calculations I compare the current year's with the previous year's return. I found that a very good way of checking.

The only time I ever had a problem with the IRS was the one year I used a professional.

Did you use a professional because you had a complication, which raised the eyebrows of the IRS? Or did he/she do something wrong? Or was it coincidence?

I used Intuit's Turbo Tax for my 2007 taxes. My ex always had his/our taxes done because he owned his own business and it was very involved. I was very nervous about Turbo Tax, and the estimated taxes I have to send in quarterly, so I went to the CPA that the guy I bought my house from recommended. He looked everything over and said I did fine. I will use him from now on, and not Turbo Tax.

Just an FYI for those who use TurboTax and prepare multiple returns for your family. In addition to a price increase for including 1 efile return, TurboTax now charges an $9.95 for each additional printed or e-file return.

I'll be moving to Tax Cut this year.

I think I'm going to try Tax Cut myself. I've been using Turbo Tax for at least 5 years now, but I feel it's gotten less intuitive to use in recent years. I can't exactly say why, but last year I struggled with it to get all the stuff on the right forms...

Safe filing everyone.
