So when was the last time....
So when was the last time you wrote in a cursive script form?
Other than your signature that is.
I got a new fountain pen for Xmas and was just playing with it.
I tried to write in a cursive form and my hand just didn't want to do it.

Although my handwriting is atrocious I rarely print. It wasn't always atrocious- it's just gotten shakier as I've gotten older. I have always found printing more laborious.
Since my cursive was always pretty bad I've been using a combination of printing and cursive....some words all cursive [usually short ones], some all printing and some a combination. Started doing it in college when I began having trouble reading my course notes.
I write in cursive most every day -- I’m still old school when it comes to writing notes to myself or to my wife. I used and excessive amount of cursive while enclosing Christmas and “Thank You” card messages, it seems more heartfelt and sincere than a printed or text msg.

funny that this came up b/c my son (30) just mentioned the need to write something in cursive as part of grad school applications....either the app itself to a PhD program or else as part of the GRE exam. like Jerry-MA and his fountain pen, my son was not sure that he remembered HOW TO
in cursive.
from another angle: we have a good high school friend who teaches poetry and creative writing in Oregon; and she actually writes US real handwritten notes to us and MAILS them via the USPS. funny thing is that she PRINTS and does not use cursive

A few times I used a fountain pen it didn't work so well with me being left handed, I got more ink on the palm of my hand then on the paper, lol.
Probably the last time I used cursive writing was in highschool, I gave it up when I got to University. My son has not learned cursive writing in his recent schooling (currently in grade 7), he did get a bit of it a few years back but the school system has abandoned it. I was surprised at first , but I think he is better off learning keyboarding rather than cursive writing so I've become used to it now.

It used to be considered impersonal or impolite to type personal letters instead of writing them in cursive. That feeling lingers for me except where only typed script is possible. So we often write our family letters in cursive and scan them into the computer if they must be emailed. Also most people use cursive writing when sending postcards or greeting cards.
Students normally need to write fast when taking lecture notes, so not only do they use cursive, but they normally end up degrading their carefully learned and practiced penmanship.
With voice to text programs like Dragon, etc. I don't know if there is a cursive font available, but if so it would still be stylized and impersonal, even if warmer.
