Adam is a cool kid! (And most of you know I am NOT a kid person )

I met Adam when he came with his dad to the 2005 Vintage S Meet (and I mean old cars not people) in Middletown, NY...

I was so impressed with his grown up behavior and obvious interest in the vehicles.

Congrats to Adam!

We are in Springfield, MA this evening. The Northeast Regional competition is tomorrow starting at 8:00 AM.

This week Adam built another chassis, this time out of carbon fibre, and instead of a two speed transmission this chassis has a CVT transmission that Adam designed. He thinks the new car is faster by a little. Adam thinks that his car is the only one in the competition with a transmission, all of the others have direct gear drive from the motor.

He put in at least 20 hours this week working on it. I drove him to school at 7:00 every morning so that he could get a few extra hours in the technology lab.

The Holiday in that we're staying at is packed. The license plates on the cars in the lot are from all over New England, lots from New York, New Jersey, Mass and Connecticut. The competition will probably be fierce.

I hope Adam wins in the "innovation" category. I like that even better than speed.

Win or lose, it doesn't really matter, we're really very pleased that he has the skill, ability, drive and persistance to do this.

Adam won!

He finished 1st for the Overall Championship 2008
He finished 2nd for Innovation
He finished 3rd for technical merit.

He won three trophies! He is the only kid to have won more than one trophy.

All and all, between Adam and the other kid from his school, Randolph Middle School came home with 4 trophies. No other school won more than one!

Quite a day.

Wow...excellent!! Give him a hug for me. If he's still accepting hugs, that is.

Thank you all for your nice comments. We're exhausted. It was hot and sunny today. It was in the 90s. This was great for the solar cars, but very tiring for us humans. We got up early, watched the kids participate in the competition and drove 200 miles home.

Of course with Adam and his three trophies in the back seat it was a nice ride.

We'll post pictures tomorrow evening, and I'm going to have Adam write a little something about the car, his CVT transmission and his other innovations.
