Oh yes, I'll be there and flying in. I've only missed one Spring Fling, in 2005, when my back was hammered.

MsPerky 12-08-2011 05:22 PM

 Not a bad rate.

Lainey 12-08-2011 05:37 PM

Okay folks, registration should be open!!!

Room booked!

smohan123 01-03-2012 05:19 AM

Hmm, I didn't bother to ask about an OKI caravan over there. I'll book for the 17th and leaving on the 20th and ask them to change it for me if we have different plans to get there.

edit: Booked.

The lady told me that the $99 rate is for double beds. I asked for a King or Queen room and she said I could get the same rate if I have AAA, which I do. I think they're just trying to fill doubles before Kings and Queens, so even if you don't have AAA you can probably still get the same rate for the better room by insisting. /thumbsup

No, thank you, Jim. My last long drive to Pittsburgh for Spring Fling 2010 may be the last cross country drive for me. I got sick and tired of trying to stay awake. It just wasn't fun.

S1997 01-10-2012 03:30 PM

5 Hour Energy keeps me going on the road. I really enjoy driving across in the S. Should be top down weather in May.

What airport is best for flying in?

Sorry about the OT comments, Ken. :)

Kyras 01-10-2012 03:33 PM

I'm flying into BWI (Baltimore/Washington,MD). It's only 74 miles to the hotel - about 1 hour 14 mins, according to Google.

I've never tried the 5 Hour Energy although I just watched a commercial for it last night.

jukngene 01-10-2012 05:17 PM

^^^I agree with Patty, BWI is the best airport to fly in to, although Dulles (IAD) is an option.

Hey, Gene, why is BWI best? I just checked Goggle for IAD and it's even closer to the hotel at 62 miles vs. 74miles for BWI. It gives me options for checking flights.

MsPerky 01-11-2012 02:32 AM

Normally, airfares to BWI are cheaper than to Dulles. I'd also say BWI for traffic reasons. Route 70W from BWI is probably a less congested route than anything going north from Dulles (Dulles Greenway, Route 7). And you would have to pay toll on the Dulles Greenway.

If you're coming from Dulles, you can use the toll-free Dulles Airport Express Lanes. Take the express lane to Rt 28 N to Rt 7 to Leesburg. At Leesburg, take Rt 15 to I-70 West to Hagerstown (or you can take the express lanes to I-495 Northbound to I-270 to I 70 West but Rt 28 is the better way). (The link is for Google Maps). If you go this way, you avoid the toll on the Greenway but go a bit out of your way.

The toll road you remember is the one toward downtown DC from Dulles. You don't have to pay toll if you are going to/from the airport. The Greenway is a newer road that goes north off the Dulles toll road. It is also a toll road. Ken's alternate may work for you. I will be going the back way up there myself - no 495 Beltway, 270, etc. I plan to drive Route 7 to 15 N to Hagerstown. The interstates here are a traffic mess almost all the time. Better to avoid!

Friday won't really start until around 4:00pm but I'll be doing the last of the rehearsal runs for the Saturday drive and you're more than welcome to come along on those. There's also a dinner being planned by Legal Bill and afterwards a meet and greet with a cash bar and a chance to meet and greet friends both old and new.

jukngene 01-19-2012 03:16 PM

Ken has tasked me with putting together a master list of reservations, attendance, Friday night dinner attendees, etc. I'll be getting around to doing that sometime in the near future. https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/public/st...t-tip-wink.gif I may also be leading one of the drive groups. https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/public/st...rivingskid.gif
