Is it out there? Does it work? Are you exposed to it online?

How about computer screens?

Stare at this picture for a bit and then answer the poll question.
1) Yes
2) Yes
3) Yes
4) Yes
5) Nah

This type of thing has been around for pretty much forever. Implementation changes, but the game is still the same. People trying to manipulate people to do what they want them to do... yep, that's pretty much been out there since the dawn of humankind. You look right at it every day. Sometimes you recognize it when it's happening, but most times you don't.
Yes It's been around forever but our infatuation with digital media has not. You can download insertion programs that will subliminally send messages at a rate you can't see and identify over and over. On websites, forums or other places you visit often they can sequence multiple messages. These messages can be visual, script or both.

You're in the business. Do you protect your clients against electronic subliminals or are you aware of any of your clients using them? How about targeted subliminals to mobile phone applications using gps and past histories?

Can you tell what's in the picture?

Like I said, implementation changes, but the game is still the same. Sleight of hand, suggestive statements, guiding verbiage, etc. TVs have been around since the late '20s, and the same concerns as you mentioned apply to those. It's really not much different, just more of it.

Re your questions, 1) No, it's not my job to protect people's minds. Only their data. My prime directive is to protect the data above all else. Secondly, I try to simplify their jobs at work and facilitate their productivity via technology where applicable. I have no idea what the web designers do with the client web sites or online marketing campaigns. Not my problem. 2) No. 3) Nope.

This feels like throwback Thursday! The walrus is paul. Paul is dead. Bury my body. It's all satanic stuff.

And then those silly guys in ELO. You know, I have to admit ELO is the one reason I miss actual record albums. I don't have a player anymore and none of my albums ever actually made it to the west coast with me, but I feel like I should miss them. It is probably a subliminal thing.

Gotta love ELO but I'm surprised that you would invoke "satanic stuff" and claim it's the same old stuff. I think you're dead wrong.

By changing the hue or color of a few pixels in an existing picture, you can promote many things without people even knowing it. The secret in computer messaging is the continual repetition or sequenced repetitions

I recently reviewed mobile applications and advertising. Here's scenario (a non dangerous or toxic one). You're walking down the street texting away. A couple blocks down on the route you've been walking is a pizza parlor and it's almost lunch time. Your service provider or other entity has contracted with the pizza joint to promote them Without your knowledge, on the same screen you look at every day is a superimposed image or series of images designed to make you hungry and then want pizza. You had no clue you were being directed and yet this was targeted directly at you by a computer that has collected all the info on you that it can.

Now apply this to more dangerous things like terrorist recruiting or race baiting. it starts to get scary. How about political campaigns or candidates? Is it getting scarier yet? Realize that your children are very susceptible to this kind of manipulation.

I'm only touching on the applications that are already out there.

^^ Not sure about your use of the word "invoke". If you click the link I included in my comment and go to the section titled "backmasking," I think the intention of my post might be clearer.

Basically, no, I'm not scared. I'm generally not fond of courting hysteria.

I just thought invoke went well with "satanic stuff". Guess I've watched too many scary movies. Hysteria works too!

I think it's a pretty thought provoking subject. It fits the boundaries of the forum and because we are all transitional into the electronic age we have a little different perspective than some. There's years of wisdom in here. We can all take a shot at being futurists.

It certainly *is* a thought-provoking topic. I don't think anyone said it wasn't. It's possible the topic even provokes thoughts without us even realizing we are thinking about them. It might even make us think them in reverse. I also don't think anyone said the topic was outside of the boundaries of this sub-forum. All sorts of topics get discussed here and many opinions are expressed. Sometimes people even tell other people that their opinions are dead wrong. And there is no rule against that either. And there is no rule against disagreeing.
