Default Tax Time!

April is here, just about. For those of you who are self employed, are you all set for tax day? For those of you who are employees, I hope you are gtting a big refund...or at least not sending a check. For those of you who are accountants, are you keeping up?

I have gotten a big refund in past years, but not sure about this one since my income has been cut due to retirement. We shall see.

I never get a refund. I have everything setup so that I owe Uncle Sam.

Done and filed electronically by my CPA a couple weeks ago.

Our situation is a good example of why the tax code is screwed up.

Thanks to healthy Itemized Ded for Charitable Giving and Property Taxes, and Cap Gains favored tax rate; we paid about 3.5% on a pretty substantial total income (line 22). Yes, we are in a sweet spot right now and that will change a bit when the RMD kicks in in 2016.

Nevertheless, no one should get away with paying so little Federal tax. We're not Hedge Fund Managers, but are benefitting from some of the same cozy deals that put big bucks in their pockets.

We always get a nice refund. We have Federal taxes taken out of our SS and get it back at tax time. We use it for our annual visit to Naples.

I just went over my return. I'm pretty sure I'm paying for the rework of the health insurance web site. Either that or a couple of cruise missiles. Or maybe Medicaid for a small village.

I my country. If you think there's a better one - great; and I say move there. I've never seen the point of bitching about paying taxes. How the money is spent - well, that can be debated!!! Couldn't follow Jerry's rant - was he bitching or bragging? Bill, there's an easy alternative - don't make so much. But I never thought it was a good one.
