Default Taxes

Did my federal and state taxes from start to finish in 2.5 hours. I love Turbo Tax; every year it improves. True, with us both retired now it's pretty easy and I've been forced to take the standard deduction for years now - but I'm not complaining. I can remember when it use to take me 2.5 weeks to do the damn paperwork. I use to overpay just to feel like the refund made it worth the effort. This year we are getting all of a hundred bucks back on the federal - how's that for playing it close to the vest.

Got nice refunds from fed and state. On our way to Naples, Fla to spend some of it.

Used Turbo Tax too. Simple return as well. Got enough $ for the new top, but not the installation.

TurboTax person here also.....

Getting a little back from the state.... and a nice amount back from Uncle Sam (probably need to look at what they are taking out at work and decrease it!)

You might want to talk to a tax accountant first before doing that. I'm told by my friends who pay attention to such things (obviously I'm not one of them) that there are some changes on the books this year which might cause you to end up paying more than 2012.

*disclaimer: I am not a financial professional in any way, shape, manner or form and do not claim any expertise in the matter. I just repeat random gossip I hear at the water cooler. And the water cooler told me to talk to a tax accountant. The water cooler gives better advice than that dog I used to listen to.

Mike, you may want to increase your deductions and send it to me.

I knew I came to the right place! I'm surrounded by high-rollers here.

Oh, and another tip from the water cooler: it said to keep my assets liquid. Teeheehee!

I need to start to do my taxes myself. Got spoiled by using a CPA years ago and DO also use him as an informal "financial planner".... The year 2012 may be the last one where I have some sort of weird thing that needs a professional interpretation.

PS to DLQ: Hard to believe that your joint RE taxes, medical insurance costs (Medigap, Part B, Part D) and charitable deductions don't still make it worthwhile to Itemize Deductions? Maybe you have med paid by your former company or whatever...
