We believe that a male puppy will bring some companionship to BB as well.
What is this BB you refer to?
BB is my 11 yr old Maltese dog. She is the lady of the house.

And Dean, you slay me.

Little update. We're (using the term we loosely) are still considering our adoption options. +1 is completely uninterested in adding to the family. I am completely interested and still doing research. I've expanded my search to include the Chinese Imperial dog, but still am leaning more toward the mini-Schnauzer. The Havanese is neat looking little dog, but apparently requires a little more grooming that I'd like to do. I've sent several emails to breeders in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Florida. I believe I will find the perfect little boy for me and BB, since apparently Jim thinks he doesn't want another pet. We'll see how that goes.

So, you'll be getting another dog, I take it.

If you find a breeder in my part of FL and would like to have him/her checked out, let me know. Depending on the distance, I may be able to pay a visit.

Ok, I've found what I think is the perfect little pet for me/us. He is a 5 mo old male black and white (aka partie) mini-schnauzer. He'll weight probably about 12 lbs when fully grown. He's been neutered, had all his shots (comes with a vet certificate), and is house trained. He still needs to learn commands and needs to be leash trained, but I'm not worried about that. He's in Florida, so I'll have to travel to get him and there's that pesky issue of . . . convincing Jim he really needs a puppy. I'll be appreciative of any good wishes you want to toss in my direction.

Tossing those good wishes your way, Val. I'm sure Jim will welcome the new baby. When you're happy, he's happy.

My neighbor has one of these. Very cool dog. Good inside the house and very protective. You can win her over though, she's sucker for an ear scratch. Extremely well mannered and well trained dog.

I think it's a kind of terrier. It's a bouvier.

Nice looking dog.

Well, believe it or not, I decided to turn the little fellow down. He apparently is VERY high energy. Whereas, I would like something with more energy than my 12 yr old BB, I feel a great sense of responsibility to bring another pet here that would be more to her liking as well. I really do not want to adopt a pet that may really upset her world. So, I'm still looking. I think I may have to think seriously about something even smaller so that it will not do her any physical harm. She has a little bit of an arthritis problem so I want to be sure anything I bring to live with us won't exacerabate her issues. I feel this is a lifelong commitment and want to be sure we'll all be happy together. I'm a little bummed, but will still continue to search for the right fit.

Sorry this one wasn't the one, but I'm sure you'll find a match, Val!
