When I was still in MN, our local autocross club would do kart league in the winter. It was a total blast. We just used the karts at the local ProKart and we rented the place for our events. There was a Sunday and a Tuesday league with about 15-20 people in each. We did a 2 race, LSQ and main format most times and ProKart would post our points standings each week. So much fun and helped keep the rust off between car playing seasons

I have heard same thing. I think that is why the LO 206 class is popular. I first went that route with my son, but we soon decided that tracking actual cars was much more fun. (for us) His time on the kart was helpful though, and he is a MUCH better driver intuitively than I am. I cant even come close to his times on the sim even though I watch everything he does. He is just naturally a better driver and finds the lines with much more ease than I do.

The good thing is he has a great balance of understanding his envelope along with this. We have a few track days coming up when the heat breaks and then a 2 day event at VIR. Really looking forward to it! I have only a few mods I wanted to get done before our VIR trip. Dont want to change too many variables. But I am going up to significantly higher spring rates and then do a new corner balance and see where the car sits. After that, I may need sway bar adjustment, but I think the higher rate springs will bring us close to where we want to be. VIR has some higher exit speed corners and with our new power levels since last time we were there, I was spitting out rear fender liners. I am thinking upping the spring rate should be our solution.

I think the best "mod" you can make is in your head. Drive within your limits! I installed a roll bar in my S2000 to enjoy track days. Changed the brake fluid regularly (used the same brand used in by Porsche), changed the brake discs back and forth between track and street as needed, regularly changed engine and transmission fluids between events, tires as needed, and that was the extent of it. After selling the S2000 it was the track days I missed most of all.
