Default A timely article about class rings...

I saw this article this morning and was reminded of Lainey's Class Ring poll.

Class rings are out...

Make sure you read the comments, too.

Oh, BTW, I still have my high school ring and it is gathering dust in a drawer, and I'm sure that I wouldn't be able to get it on my ring finger anymore anyway.

I didn't buy a college ring, but I do have a college necklace/pendant. It was given to me as a gift. That is probably in a drawer somewhere, too, also gathering dust.

I doubt that I will ever sell them, though.

My parents both graduated from The University of California at Berkeley. My mother scrimped and saved little bits of money from the grocery money for a long time, and saved up enough to buy my father a college ring for my father and gave it to him, I think, on their 25th wedding anniversary.

Guess the "ring thing" just isn't in style anymore.

I will have to ask my students if they are getting their class ring or not. I mostly have sophmores though so they may not be thinking about rings yet. I didn't get my ring until half way through my junior year.

I suspect a high school ring had much more significance when graduating high school was a bigger accomplishment.
I think for most kids now, it's just a milepost along the way.

Class rings have always been a big tradition at MIT. They are known as "Brass Rats". I assume that this is still true.

I din't think we even had high school class rings. If we did, I didn't have one.
