timing of birthdays
My son's birthday is 14 Dec, and when he was young, we would celebrate his 1/2 birthday in June for his benefit. His 13 year old daughter is a 3 Nov, and +1 and I let her celebrate it early by taking her clothes shopping right before school starts in late August. It suits her just fine.

Do you fly fish
Up there with "Did you fly United?"..."No, we each sat in our own seat."
AJ's birthday is January 3rd so he usually gets stiffed, his birthday having gotten lost among the holidays, although Sandy and I always try to mark the occasion appropriately.
Rob's birthday is on Holloween so he always has very cool birthday parties.
On the topic of birthdays, I have the big 60 coming up soon. Last Monday I was at the lake near my home with my friend to ride our Seadoos, and while eating lunch I watched an old guy climbing the embankment, up from where he had been fishing. He jumped on my offer to help him, saying he had had open heart surgery recently. Then he said his 70th birthday was coming up on June XX, and I asked him to repeat it. Same day as mine, 10 years difference. (I hope I'm in better shape when I'm 70)

Some people have their birthdays very near Christmas, or very near their sibling's birthdays. We all know why that sucks.

I'm curious if people actually PLANNED the birthdays of their children -- i.e., we want our child to have a birthday near Christmas, so we will try hard the 2nd half of March.

Seems like kids often have the same birthday as one of the parents, too...

, one was conceived right away, the second took a few months...so neither of them were a surprise...but the date of conception had nothing to do with 'planning' the date of birth.
The dates they were born just happened to fall on special days for us.
Just the 'luck of the draw'.
Our son-in-law's birthday is Christmas Day. I don't know whether his parents planned it or not.
His mother made sure all through his growing-up years that he was not short-changed. (And, now it is up to our daughter to make sure that he is not short-changed on his birthday celebration.)
When he was growing up, they had Christmas morning breakfast at the grandparents' house. Then, the mid-day meal at their house was a special meal for Christmas Day. Then, the evening meal was another special meal, with all of his favorites, and his favorite home-made carrot cake for his birthday.
Now, the mid-day meal for Christmas is at his parents' home, and the evening birthday meal and home-made carrot cake is done by our daughter. Now that our daughter and son-in-law have two little children of their own, December 25 is somewhat of a hectic day. It might be time for them to start some different traditions, I think.
Oh, and his father's birthday is the next day, December 26.
Our son's birthday is on April 15, Tax Day. He was planned, but not planned for April 15.
My mother's birthday was December 31, New Year's Eve. When she was growing up, and her parents had guests over, she thought that everybody was staying up late to celebrate her birthday!
