What a blow-by-blow description of the tragic days.

I guess Dave & I are the only ones here who even know who these singers were, much less remember their songs.

Well, I am a bit younger that the two of you so these guys were just a bit before my time. But, I thank you for posting this as I never knew or bothered to research the details. For example I did not realize that they were in a V tailed Bonanza (which has a history of tragic flight results, attributed to it's combination rudder and elevators incorporated into the V tail versus the classic T tail that almost every other plane utilizes.

For what it is worth I have several hours of right seat time in a 1969 A-36 Bonanza. Which is a pretty nice aircraft except for it's lack of cabin heat, because it was only drawn off of one side of the exhaust. I also had the experience of having to have it jump started in below zero F temperatures by a 1979 Chevy Vega.

Handled like a dream, in the air...just a tad squirrelly on the take- off roll...but probably because I didn't have her trimmed out well...

I was 15 and remember that day like I remember the day JFK was asassinated. I was in Clearlake, Iowa on business years ago and saw the area where his plane crashed. He was a musical genius and inspired many. True Love Ways was a masterpiece and included violins which was a rarity in those days. We saw the Buddy Holly story in Philly last summer. Yes Gene, there are others who remember this day

I use to have (since sold) two radio promo 45's on Brunswick label for "The Crickets" - songs were Maybe baby, Tell me how, It's so easy!, Lonesome tears. Feeling old again.
