We live in a rural area just over three miles outside of Clifton, VA and there are no sidewalks and only street lights at some intersections. One of which is at the end of our driveway. We had ONE trick or treater this year. Candy anyone?
In the past, I have had some fun answering the door to the few that we have and stating that we don't have any treats so what it the trick you are going to pull on me? They don't know how to reply. Then I give them "double candy"
Same thing happened here. Years ago, when the community was new we'd get a steady parade of trick or treaters. This year the door bell rang only 5 or 6 times. We were finished by 7:00 pm. Lots of left over candy, and we didn't buy much to begin with.
None of the kids know what to say when asked what the trick is.
The +1 and I worked at the Marine Corps Marathon again this year, which fell on Halloween. There were some pretty costumes. One guy was dressed as Chewbaca, with hair hanging down all over. I don't know how on earth he ran with that getup. And there was a group of the Tin Man, the Lion, the Scarecrow, and Dorothy with Toto in a basket. Very clever. Various other characters.
