Folks who think freedom comes easily, can be bought, or legislated into existence, would do well to remember this image from June 4, 1989.

Ditto for people who think it can be imposed on others.

Please don't take this the wrong way ... but does everyone know that when Hitler was first elected he was not elected by a majority vote ? The vote was split between at least three parties; he had less than 50% of the vote.

Enabling Act

That law had to be passed with a two-thirds majority in parliament (431 votes). It ultimately passed with 444 votes after all 81 Communist members of parliament had been either killed or arrested, along with 26 members from the Social Democrats. Everyone else kind of fell in line after that, and afterwards all other political parties were dissolved while at the same time it was forbidden to found any new ones.

The Social Democrats (what was left of them anyway) ended up being the only ones who voted against the law.

As of March 1933, the Nazis had "only" 288 out of 647 seats in parliament.

Not sure how this relates, though.

As much as the Democrats drive me crazy at times, it's a wonderful thing to be a part of a two-party system. In China it's ALWAYS the single Communist Party who gets the final say.

I saw a pick-up truck today with every nasty bumper sticker imagineable directed toward Bush and his policies. At least this guy can make his opinion known and vote for who he wants at every election.

As I have posted many times over the last few years. One of my favorite quotes is: "I may wholly disagree with what you say, but I will defend to my death your right to say it."

Thank God that we live in the "Free World".
