I wouldn't claim to be surprised at all.
I run full snows on all of the winter cars.
My wife's ar is on all-seasons at the moment but that was because we traded he older car in with the beat up and well used snows.
If she has to do snowy duty she'll likely take the ML instead.

Snow is what you get when you drive into the mountains. Four wheel drive is the most important thing so you won't have to put on chains. The Sierra cement snow does well with all season and all terrain tires so no need to switch unless you live on the pass.

Agree, no surprise here. Nothing beats Blizzaks. I first used them about 40 years ago, as best I recall. These days I can wait till the roads are cleared so it doesn't matter.

For the wife's CRV I just put on Michelin CrossClimate2 which has proven to be outstanding in the rain. We have to wait to see how they perform in the snow but I'm betting they will be really good based on the feedback at Tire Rack. Love the tread design.

Just finished installing the snow tires…getting too old for these kind of jobs.

I bet they would be really good in slushy snow conditions, we get a lot of that in our region, and less deep snow to worry about. Our Subarus can push through pretty much any snowfall, I am looking for new snows for my one car and these look like good candidates for my type of driving needs. Deep slush and ice conditions are what most concern me rather than deep snow.

The wife has never mentioned them as noisy; she thinks they are great so far. Here's other reviews.
