Same here, my Dad was a USN WWII vet serving in the Pacific. His 2 brothers served as well.

Lots of vets in town. More than I remember in previous years.

Dave you just have to register online and every time you use your Lowe's card, even for online purchases, it gives you the 10% discount. It only takes about 10 seconds for them to verify that you are a vet.

#1 I don't have a Lowes card, #2 I never pay with a card unless its online or very expensive, #3 I can't think of a number three but its 2am...

We tipped glasses last night with a Vet friend and his wife. Had a good time and did several toasts to the those that didn't make it back. Lots of free lunches around today. I'm going to pass them up but its a nice gesture.

Local sub shop had a buy one, get one free special for vets. That's the extent of my taking advantage of the day!

My grandson's 8th grade class was visited by a WWII vet recently. He talked a lot about the war and where he served. They were very impressed as they did not know much about WWII. Now my grandson wants to learn more about it. I served during Viet Nam and we discussed that war. Nice to see kids interested in what our veterans did for them.

Anyone see the Discovery Channel series "Taking Fire"? Well done, first person account with soldiers carrying Go-Pro cameras. 101AB in Afghanistan.

Why don't people ever talk about the Korean war? If I was a vet from that war I would feel very excluded, like I had done something awful. All wars are awful.

Good question. But I'll hazard a guess - it's like sports. People talk about the Wins and Loses but seldom mention Ties.

There are a few okay cable documentaries on the Korean War. Don't know why there are more being done. Esp since the live Vets from this war are getting fewer and fewer.

Best book which I have read, is "In Mortal Combat," by John Toland. Quill Publishing. 1991. ISBN: 0-688-12579-4.
