Colonial Williamsburg honors the sacrifices and dedication of United States Veterans, active military personnel and their families during special Veterans Day programs on Tuesday, Nov. 11. As part of the tribute, Colonial Williamsburg offers special complimentary admission passes to active duty military, reservists, retirees, Veterans and their families from Nov. 7-11, 2009. The Honoring Service to America pass includes admission to Colonial Williamsburg’s Historic Area and museums, including the Capitol, Governor’s Palace and Bassett Hall, the Williamsburg home of Foundation benefactor John D. Rockefeller Jr. and his wife, Abby Aldrich Rockefeller. The service member need not be present, and free passes will be provided to immediate family members of currently deployed troops, with appropriate identification. Military Veterans who separated before retirement can bring a copy of their honorable discharge paperwork, DD Form 214, as identification of service. These tickets are available only at Colonial Williamsburg on-site ticket sales windows.

Federal Parks Fees Waived on Nov 11 [wenatcheeworld.com] (Portland, OR)
Federal lands that require a parking pass or fee to visit will be free on Nov. 11 in celebration of Veterans Day, according to a U.S. Forest Service news release.

Day-use fees, including picnic areas, boat launches, trailheads and visitor centers will be free to all to honor U.S. veterans, members of the armed forces and their families.

Fees will still be charged for uses such as camping, cabin rentals and concession operations, the release stated.

In honor of Veterans Day, free plastic and reconstructive surgery is being offered by the Center for Aesthetics and Plastic Surgery, 2680 Leonard NE, Suite 4, Grand Rapids, for any Michigan vet injured while on active duty.

The injury must be the type that is treatable with cosmetic or reconstructive surgery. The offer is good only throughout the month of November for scheduling appointments. The actual surgeries will take place sometime after the first of the year, most likely in January.

Belk is having a grassroots events, which allows Local/Federal Goverment employees and Military families to receive a special 20% discount on October 27, 2009. This would be on all regular & sale priced merchandise with very limited exclusions. All Belk stores will be participating. I like the wear your uniform option. How many of us would still fit in it" Now that would be a fun poll.

I would but barely. I'm 15 pounds heavier that the lean mean 185 I was in the service.

I don't see any bars on there offering a free drink.

^I don't believe that many of us would be able to fit in our uniform's, we would have to rely on our DD 214's.

 

If you're ever back up Cleveland way, all the Great Lakes Beer you can drink is on me.

Great post. I am a vet and did not realize all of these perks. I need some stuff at Lowes/Home Depot so I will take my discharge papers with me. Thanks.

 

Even my AF hat doesn't fit any more and it's the only thing I saved.

 

With a military ID card, you can get a 10% discount on anything at Home Depot and Lowe's anytime.

 

As one that was spit on and called a "baby killer" for being in uniform at the Port of Authority Building in NYC in August of 1970 for serving my country I am happy that attitudes towards those serving our country have changed.

I will never forget that day. Thankfully, things have changed.
